Use Your Planter for Planting Cover Crops, Wheat and Other Small Grains
Now distributed through S.I. Distributing, these proven SeedRight vacuum seed plates allow growers with John Deere, Precision Planting, and Kinze vacuum meters the flexibility to accurately plant cover crops, wheat and other small grains.
There are proven significant agronomic advantages to using a planter, compared to a grain drill:
Cover more acres in less time, while enjoying more control over depth and population. All of this will result in less seed and fuel, reduced seeding rates, increased germination and an overall better stand.
Also, expand your planter’s capability, especially if you do not own a drill or are looking to replace one.
The SeedRight large-cell discs, for John Deere, Precision Planting and Kinze vacuum meters, accurately plant small grains, such as wheat, oats, cereal rye and triticale. The large-cell seed plates are for larger-sized seeds, commonly less than 35,000 seeds per pound.
If you are looking to accurately plant cover crops, such as radishes, turnips, crimson clover, rape seed and rye grasses, then the recommendation is the SeedRight small-cell discs. The small-cell seed plates are for smaller-sized seeds, commonly greater than 35,000 seeds per pound.

SeedRight Backer Plates for Kinze Brush Type Meters
For Kinze Brush Type mechanical meters, the SeedRight Backer Plate works together with the OEM plates to enable the brush type meter to accurately plant small grains and cover crops. It helps to create a seal around the edge of your plate to avoid small seeds leaking out. The backer plate fits on top of your existing plate and is used to plant wheat, buckwheat, oats, cereal rye, annual rye, sorghum, sorghum Sudangrass, sunflowers, teff grass, triticale, radish, turnips, crimson clover and alfalfa.
Testimonials/Recommendations of Backer Plate
“Performed great. I would recommend getting a scale to measure the seeds per pound. My shed space is a premium and after I saw these plates, I got rid of my drill. SeedRight plates let me do that.” -- S.R., IL, who used a backer plate with a 48-cell bean plate and averaged 100 bushels of wheat per acre.
“Got a perfect stand and it did a perfect job. I recommend that you do a diamond-shape when planting. If you are set up to do no-till, the planter works great. If you already have the high-priced equipment, why not use it?” -- Western IL Customer, who used a backer plate with a 48 cell bean plate to plant cereal rye (31 row KZ split row).
