Martin closing wheels, for planters, move soil toward the seed at planting depth, while lifting and fracturing the surface layer to achieve compaction-free closing of the seed trench in wet, hard or sod conditions. With soil firmed around the seed from each side and the surface layer loosened, crops emerge sooner and planting can be done at the proper depth, even in wetter conditions, without fear of crushed soil above the seed prevention emergence.

Martin-Till Drag Chain Crumbles, Fills Unclosed Areas and LEVELS Soil above the Seed Slot

The row is leveled and air pockets are sealed behind the spading closing wheels.  This helps even out the rate of drying and insures the soil does not dry past seed depth.  Using a Marti-Till drag chain will help increase uniform emergence in the drier parts of the field and is recommended when using the closing wheels in minimum till.

Reduced inner diameter tires allow seed trench to lift part of the sidewall and fracture.  To reduce sidewall compaction to a minimum, JD style planters will need the gauge wheel tires changed to reduced inner diameter style to allow the seed trench walls to lift slightly.

Mounted rigidly to the row units, Martin-Till® Unit-Mounted Fertilizer Openers (UMOs) follow the row unit over undulating terrain to place crop nutrients at seed depth either one, two or three inches from the seed furrow.

The Martin-Till Weight Transfer System addresses this weight problem by redistributing excess weight from the center of the planter to the wings. Keeping the wings level and the row units in the ground will keep planting depth consistent through changing conditions.
